Ingredients

  • 6 cooking apples (1 kg) peeled, washed, cored and diced
  • 20 g salted butter
  • 120 g light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • a few drops lemon juice

For the crumble topping

  • 175 g all purpose flour
  • 115 g salted butter diced
  • 55 g light brown sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180℃

For the apples

  • Peel, wash, core and dice the apples.
  • Toss the apples with a few drops of lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
  • Place the apples in a saucepan, add the water, butter and sugar. Cook over a medium heat for about 6 to 8 minutes or until tender. Stirring regularly to avoid burning at the bottom.
  • Remove from the heat and pour it in a large mixing bowl and set aside to cool.

For the crumble topping

  • Place the ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Rub together using your fingertips until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.

Assemble and bake

  • Pour the cooled apples in a shallow pie dish and level the surface using a spatula.
  • Spoonful an even layer of crumble topping on top of the apples.
  • Cook it in a preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 160°C and cook for a further 20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  • Serve either hot or cold with ice cream or custard. Enjoy!
