- 6 cooking apples (1 kg) peeled, washed, cored and diced
- 20 g salted butter
- 120 g light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- a few drops lemon juice
For the crumble topping
- 175 g all purpose flour
- 115 g salted butter diced
- 55 g light brown sugar
For the apples
Peel, wash, core and dice the apples.
Toss the apples with a few drops of lemon juice to prevent them from browning.
Place the apples in a saucepan, add the water, butter and sugar. Cook over a medium heat for about 6 to 8 minutes or until tender. Stirring regularly to avoid burning at the bottom.
Remove from the heat and pour it in a large mixing bowl and set aside to cool.
Assemble and bake
Pour the cooled apples in a shallow pie dish and level the surface using a spatula.
Spoonful an even layer of crumble topping on top of the apples.
Cook it in a preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 160°C and cook for a further 20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Serve either hot or cold with ice cream or custard. Enjoy!
