Here are the baking supplies organizing tips no. 6 – no. 10
Tip six: Make good use of the wall space
If you have a plain wall, try to see it as a storage opportunity. I would highly recommend using pegboards to hang things out. I use the pegboard from IKEA. The boards come in two different sizes, you can mix and match according to your needs but think in that vertical dimension as I mentioned earlier – vertical gives great opportunities that most people miss.
There are different accessories that come with the IKEA pegboard. There are containers, hooks, boxes, clips and elastic. If you think outside the box, you can store all sorts of things away from your drawers where they lie unseen and hard to find. An example of this is my rolling pins – they are a pain to store in a drawer, whoโd have thought the walls were the dream place to keep them?
The final great thing about using a pegboard is its flexibility. You can easily arrange and rearrange your accessories on the pegboard to suit your needs, it becomes a dynamic storage space.
I just LOVE it! You shouldnโt have storage favourites but if I did…
Tip Seven: Keep your countertop clear
This is probably the most challenging one for everybody. Sound familiar to you? Hahaha …
Trying your VERY VERY best to keep your countertop clear is one of the most important factors to help you stay organised. However, it is just TOO easy to put things onto it, especially when you are multitasking. Here is the thing that you need to remember โฆ
โAlways put things AWAY instead of just putting them down!’
It makes sense, doesnโt it?
If you follow this simple rule, I am 100% sure that your countertop will be clear all the time. Having a clear countertop or work surface always calms me down – then I can start my project right away with a clear mind and I donโt need to waste my time clearing it up before I actually start. It helps me stay focused and work more efficiently.
Tip Eight: Categorise the items
This tip can apply to everything, no matter if it is large items, such as baking pans, or small items, like rubber bands.
Categorise things and store them in storage bins or on a shelf. By doing this, you can find them without any stress.
As a baker, I totally understand the number of tools or materials that I need when creating a project. So, categorising the different items or tools is a โMUSTโ, so that when I need that particular tool, I know where to find it.
There is a slight downside of this as it may take up a little bit more space. For example, I only have 4 forks in my baking kit but I donโt want to mix with the knives, so I separate them into two containers. If I need a fork in a hurry, I know I just need to go to that particular container to grab one.
Although it sounds like a small thing, it does make a difference during the baking process.
Tip Nine: Use the same style of dishware
Imagine when you open the cupboard, every single bowl is different in colour, shape and size โฆ (maybe you donโt need to imagine) what does it look like? One thing you canโt do, when you stack them together, is to do it neatly and efficiently.
Thatโs why this tip is to use the same style of dishware.
I totally understand when you see beautiful cute bowls or stylish mason jars, you would think of thousands of reasons why you should buy them but โฆ hang on โฆ before you decide you have to buy it โฆ think carefully first โฆ
If you have the SAME style of dishware …
- It can save you a huge amount of space. Because they are in the same style so they come in the same shape. It makes it easy to stack them up from the smallest to the biggest. As a result, you can have 10 bowls or may be more in one stack: super efficient!
- Because they are in the same style and same shape, when you store them in the cabinets or on the shelves, they look uniform and they are easy to find โฆ that means it helps you look and feel organised. No more messy, multi coloured, nightmare cupboard. No more chipping things as you are sorting through them. No more stress because you canโt find things.
So โฆ when you see a โMUST BUYโ bowl or jar… STOP…THINK first โฆ do I want it or do I need it? Pretty or useful? Todayโs impulse can be tomorrowโs unused junk at the back of the cupboard.
Tip Ten: A place for everything, everything in its place
Last but not least, this is a very famous idiom for storing and organising things. It means you need to find a designated โhomeโ for an object and make sure it is returned to that particular place after it has been used every time so that you can easily find it next time you need it. This is probably the MOST important tip for being organised.
I hope these tips can inspire or help you to apply them in your own spaces. Your kitchen is your domainโฆ.make it yours, know where everything is, make it look good so that you feel good working in it. Remember – functional and stylish is the aim. You spend a lot of time in this space, make it work for you, not against you.
