Tips for Making the Best Orange Whipped Cream
- Chill everything: Make sure your cream, bowl, and beaters are cold. This helps the cream whip faster and hold its shape.
- Use high-quality orange extract: A good extract makes the flavour brighter and more fragrant.
- Add juice and zest gradually: Incorporate small amounts at a time to keep the whipped cream light and airy.
- Don’t over whip: Stop as soon as you reach soft to medium peaks. Over whipping can turn the cream grainy or even start turning it into butter.
- Balance sweetness: Taste as you go—adjust icing sugar to complement the orange flavour without overpowering it.
- Don’t skip the salt: It might sound strange to add salt to a dessert, but even a small pinch enhances the orange flavour and balances the sweetness perfectly. Trust me—it makes a noticeable difference!
- Serve immediately or chill briefly: Whipped cream is best fresh, but you can refrigerate it for a short time if needed.

Pair it With
- Chiffon cakes: Especially orange or vanilla chiffon—light, airy cakes get an instant flavour boost.
- Cupcakes & muffins: Dollop on top for a bright, citrusy twist.
- Fresh fruit: Strawberries, blueberries, or citrus segments pair beautifully.
- Parfaits & trifles: Layer it with sponge cake or granola for a refreshing dessert.
- Pancakes or waffles: Add a citrusy, creamy touch to breakfast or brunch.

How to Store this Orange Whipped Cream
Orange whipped cream is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store it in the refrigerator for a short time. Keep it in an airtight container for up to 24 hours to maintain its light, airy texture. Before using, give it a gentle whisk to bring it back to stiff peaks if it has settled.
Tip: Avoid freezing—it can change the texture and make the cream watery once thawed.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can make it a few hours ahead and store it in the fridge, but it’s best served fresh for the lightest, fluffiest texture.
Double cream is best because it whips up light and airy. Regular cream may not hold its shape as well.
Freezing isn’t recommended—once thawed, the texture can become watery and lose its fluffiness.
Use a combination of fresh orange juice, zest, and a high-quality orange extract for the brightest, most fragrant flavour.
